Fruits of our Labors (Part 2, The Handiwork)

While the produce is really satisfying, we also built, organized and improved a lot of the infrastructure here at the farm in these last months.  This is the work that will really last.

Federica has a particular knack for the small but creative touches that really capture the educational and whimsical parts of this place.  We touched up and made new signs explaining everything from the recycling system to organic farming to these direction markers.  "Glicine" means Wisteria.

We canned tomato sauce, collected honey, and prepared these olive oil preserves with zucchini, cucuzze and hot peppers from the fields. My mom was a huge help with all the food preparation. Thanks Mom!

We overhauled this stall for the animals using doors, shutters, lumber and even screws we unearthed from the collapsed greenhouse.  Some of our favorite features include a trapdoor that closes in goats from outside the fence, sturdy troughs with steel edging to reduce wood nibbling and easy cleaning and feeding layout.

We renewed this path that crosses the wooded part of the farm, interspersed with 17 nest boxes and descriptions of the bird species most likely to next in each.  Here's my mom and Fede on one of our most recent passes for maintenance.
